The rule looks for available ports on the vCenter.
For example, On vCenter, please navigate as below:
Login vCenter -> Click View -> Inventory -> Networking.
Traverse to the switch on the alarm -> Look at the summary tab for Available ports
Rule condition: It pulls FATAL alarm if number of available ports in vCenter <= to 5
It pulls CRITICAL alarm if number of available ports in vCenter <= to 10.
Values 5, 10 are default values for this rule on Foglight.
To tweak to your environment, you can edit the registry variable the rule uses to compare with your vCenter.
** Expand Administration under Dashboards ==> Rules & Notifications => Manage Registry Variables
** Search for variable "VMW:DistributedVirtualPortGroupAvailablePorts" on the search box
** You'll see the global default values for CRITICAL,FATAL & WARNING.
10,5 & 20 is default value.
** Tweak this value that best suits your environment.
** Click the value => Click change => Enter desired value => Click Finish.
Once done, moving forward the alerts will pull up based on the new Global Default values.
This is time-driven rule, so to edit that part.
**Expand Administration under Dashboards ==> Rules & Notifications =>Rules.
** Search for rule "VMW Distributed Virtual Port Group Available Ports" => Click View & Edit => Click Rule Editor => Click Continue => Click Rule definition tab.
** Change the "Recurrence Interval" under option Rule Triggering ( Default every 5 mins )
