Webmonitor: When grouping multiple URLs as a single Transaction, still no single URL is being alerted, even in version 18.104.22.168.
We had been informed that this was being tracked as IC-3498:"Improve the feature "adding multiple URLs to a single transaction" " and to check each release to see if any work had been done on this improvement.
Also there is tracking number IC-3004: "Wrong(The first) URL reported in Alarm if multiple URLs configured for a Transaction"
In the version 22.214.171.124 released in February 2017, we see the below in the release notes:
"Added the support of adding several URL addresses to a single transaction. (IC-3498)"
However, we do not see any difference in the behavior of the Web Monitor agent. It still shows a green check when there is 90% (not 100%) site availability, with no detail or alarms at all about the sites that are not reachable for grouped-together site URLs are all part of a single transaction.
The Webmonitor agent still does not support multiple URLs per single Transaction, even in version 126.96.36.199.
The wording in the release notes is a little misleading. The change that has been made is that if the user attempts to add more than one URL to a given Transaction, an error message will pop up and you are prevented from doing so. In the earlier versions of Web Monitor, the web UI would just let you go ahead and add multiple URLs to be monitored for a given Transaction even though that was not supported and did not work correctly.
Having more than one URL in a single transaction is still not supported.
Though you will not be able to create any new additional Transactions with more than one URL, no changes are made at upgrade time to any Transactions that had already been configured. Their configurations will remain the same. That is why you are not seeing any difference in behavior.
This behavior is because Web Monitor doesn't support a one to many mapping of Transactions to URLs. Web Monitor will alarm on the first URL for the Transaction, which it assumes is the only URL. The availability (or lack of availability) of any additional URLs in that Transaction will not matter. Only the first URL per Transaction will matter.
WORKAROUND: add only one URL to be monitored for each Transaction.
STATUS: Enhancement request IC-3498 had been looked at by Product Management and Development teams, resolved and closed at WebMonitor version 188.8.131.52.
You still need to add only one URL to be monitored for each Transaction.
The change that has been made is that now, if the user attempts to add more than one URL to a given Transaction, an error message will pop up and you are prevented from doing do.
If you want to Web Monitor to show the health of any additional URLs in a Transaction, each URL needs to be broken out into its own separate Transaction.
For more discussion about why you can no longer group multiple URLs together, like could be done on legacy versions of Web Monitor, refer to SOL 229210.
