When running the Migrator for Notes to Exchange (MNE) PowerShell cmdlets from a remote workstation, using a remote PowerShell connection, the command fails with the following error:
"The underlying provider failed on Open."
This issue may occur when the NME40DB is installed on a remote SQL Server with MNE configured to use Windows Authentication.
1.) Install the SQL Server locally on one of the Migrator for Notes to Exchange (MNE) migration servers and remote to that migration server with PowerShell to invoke MNE PowerShell cmdlets remotely.
2.) If SQL Server cannot be installed locally on an MNE migration server, then use SQL Authentication to authenticate against a remote SQL Server. If the MNE Bulk import directory exists on the remote SQL Server, then no further configuration should be required. If the MNE Bulk import directory is located elsewhere, then the service account running SQL will need to be granted NTFS modify rights and share permissions to the share.
Note: The workaround above will work for some MNE processes (Managing Collections, Export Notes Directory, etc.). However, when performing an actual migration of user data, the "MAPILogon" process requires an interactive shell, which is not available via remote PowerShell. A migration task will require the use of the Windows Task Scheduler, which can be configured remotely to perform the migration task.
