Attempting to clone a 2012 physical server results in error "The guest operations agent could not be contacted" and the target VM does not boot into Windows properly -
Description
The cloning of a physical Windows 2012 server gets to near the end of the process and has the error "the guest operations agent could not be contacted". Upon booting up the target machine it prompts the admin to Repair or continue to start Windows normally. If the admin chooses continue it will produce the error "An unexpected error has occurred 0xc00002e2" and the server will reboot. -
Cause
The SAN policy is configured to bring new SCSI disks as offline automatically. -
Resolution
On the source DC (prior to cloning) run the command diskpart.exe from a command line and then run "san POLICY=OnlineAll". Then take the snapshot. After the lab has been created the policy can be reverted. Enhancement ID PT117794715 has been submitted to perform this action automatically in future releases. -
