Snapshot Fails with error “The transfer of one or more volume images from a protected machine to the Core has failed Exception chain:” (4038411)

The following error is reported when a snapshot transfer fails.

Make sure the following services are running in the agent server and set to automatic, then restart the services.

• VSS writer service
• COM+ Event System 
• COM+ System Application Service 
• Distributed Transaction Coordinator Service 
• Volume Shadow Copy Service 
• MS Software Shadow Copy Provider
• Virtual Disk 
  
  

In addition, verify the following on the protected disks in windows:

• Open the Properties dialogue box on each of the protected disks
• Select the "Shadow Copies" tab
• Click on the "Settings" button
• Make sure that the volume is the same in the Storage Area drop down
  • For example, volume C:\ should map to Storage area Located on this volume to C:\
• Set the maximum Shadow Copy size to the "No limit" radio button for each disk
