Before Foglight NMS can begin monitoring and collecting data from the devices in a network, you must enable SNMP or WMI. You will need to enable the correct protocol depending on the type of data you are collecting. When you enable SNMP on a device and provide the correct credentials, Foglight NMS can start to monitor that device and collect data from it. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an Internet-standard protocol for managing devices on IP networks. SNMP allows you to collect data from all types of devices, such as desktops, servers, routers, and switches, across any operating system. When you enable SNMP on a device and provide the correct credentials, Foglight NMS can monitor that device and collect data from it.
You can use the SNMP Enablement tool to enable SNMP on the devices in a network.
