On Foglight Experience Viewer (FxV) can't bring a particular process(es) back up. When we try, it immediately shuts down/fails again.
When trying to perform a FxV hit search, you may be seeing a message like this: WARNING: An error occurred when trying to contact Archiver 'FXV2'.
Or you may be seeing the error below when you try to reach the web UI,
An error has occurred
We're sorry. An unexpected error has occurred. Please click the link below to return to the application. If the problem persists, it may be necessary to log out of the system.
There are many reasons why you could encounter errors such as the above. If this issue really is double fault corruption of the meta-data, you will see an error like the below in the FxV log files. This is the worst case scenario, which is what this knowledgebase article discusses.
Dec 18 22:27:06 hostname kernel: sd 2:2:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x00070002
Dec 18 22:27:06 hostname kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 758499509
Dec 18 22:27:06 hostname kernel: I/O error in filesystem ("sda3") meta-data dev sda3 block 0x2be76c60 ("xfs_trans_read_buf") error 5 buf count 8192
We have only seen this problem occur on FxV though it is entirely possible this problem could also occur on FxM or Foglight APM and nobody has yet encountered it.
