Log reading can sometimes include digging through thousands of text lines to locate the one important message or error. To attempt to reduce the amount of time spent locating the messages, a log reading user defined language for Notepad++ has been created.
This language will highlight certain keywords in certain colors to make reviewing logs slightly easier.
This language can be used on multiple different logs (agent and server) and these are just some examples:
The user defined language provided is known to work successfully; however, it has not been officially tested by our Quality Control. This is provided as a courtesy and is use at your own risk. Please test this language and refer to documentation from Notepad++ for any additional information on user defined languages.
Note: This language does not work well with some themes and should be used with the default Notepad++ theme. Using it with other themes may cause the backgroud to change color.
First it will be necessary to download and install Notepad++.
To add this language to Notepad++:
NOTE: Close Notepad++ and reopen it before moving on to the steps below.
To use the language:
NOTE: If the log is rather large, Notepad++ may appear to stop responding. Patience is required for larger logs. Force closing the application may cause the necessity to reload the language and may cause loss in data for any open/not saved files in Notepad++ (save important files). Please note that it is possible to copy out blocks from certain time-frames into a new file and use the language on the smaller portion for performance improvement.
