Teams channel files are missing due to previous channel rename on source prior to June 2022

When a Teams Channel was renamed prior to June 2022 and then migrated using On Demand Migration (ODM), the new channel name in the target has no files. The files would be migrated to the original channel name which gets added to the target Team. 

Example: 

Source Tenant: 

Team Name: Support 
Team Channel Name: Test
SharePoint Folder: Test
Teams Channel Rename: Test1
SharePoint Folder after channel rename: Test

Target tenant after ODM migration:

Team Name: Support 
Team Channel Name: Test
Team Channel Name: Test1
SharePoint Folder: Test (Content will be migrated here)
SharePoint Folder: Test1 (Folder will be empty)

The migrated content for the source channel will be in the original team channel name on the target tenant. This is due to the channel folder name not being renamed on the source prior to June 2022.





 

The customer's Team channel was renamed at some point prior to the Microsoft June 2022 update that keeps channel renames and SharePoint folder aligned.

There is no method within ODM to map a folder within the SharePoint document library to another location such as a new channel name folder. 

OPTIONS:

 

1. The files can be accessed from the original channel name Files tab, which was migrated to the target and has the files associated.  
2. Access the SharePoint document library for the Team and open the folder for the original channel name, select all files and then use the Move option and choose the new channel name folder.

Note: Possible workaround to change the source channel name and change it back prior to migrating. For example changing "Support Meeting" to "Support Meeting1" and then confirm the SharePoint folder updated. Once confirmed change back to the desired name and provision and migrate the team. This is not tested in our support environment as we cannot reproduce due to the below fix being in place by Microsoft that now keeps the channel rename and folder name in alignment. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=72211
