WORKAROUND
To catalog and register differential or incremental backups, follow these steps:
1. In the left pane of the Recovery Manager main window, click the console tree root 'Quest Recovery Manager for Exchange'.
NOTE: The right pane displays the task pad view.
2. In the task pad view, click anywhere in the 'Register a Source' box. Follow the steps in the New Source Wizard.
3. On the Source Database Option page, click 'Directly access backup media' and click Next.
4. On the Storage Group Selection page, select the 'Catalog a new backup' check box and click Next.
5. On the Backup Media Selection page, enter the path and name of the file that holds the differential backup. When finished click Next.
NOTE: If you stored backup files in a shared folder on your Exchange Server computer, precede the file name with the UNC (Universal Naming Convention) path to that folder, for example: \\EXCHSERVER\Backups\DifferentialBackup.bkf.
6. Wait while the wizard catalogs the backup file. When the operation is complete, click Close on the Media Cataloging page.
7. In the wizard, click Back, and then click Back once more - this returns you to the page that lists the backed up Storage Groups.
8. On the Storage Group Selection page, select the Exchange storage group you want to work with and click Next.
9. On the Information Store Selection page, select the check boxes next to the stores you want to work with and click Next.
10. On the Incremental/Differential Backup Selection page, click 'Use a differential or incremental backup' and then select the list entry that corresponds to your differential or incremental backup, then click Next.
11. On the Database Location Selection page, specify the path to store extracted databases, then click Next.
12. Wait while the wizard processes the backups and registers the Information Store database. When the operation is complete, click Finish to close the wizard.
Once you have completed the New Source Wizard, a new source appears in the console tree in the left pane, and Recovery Manager is ready to restore data from the new source.
STATUS
Waiting for product documenation fix in a future release of Recovery Manager for Exchange.
Note: When Registering a differential backup file you must also add the backup file for the last Full Backup taken before the differential backup. When Registering an incremential backup you must also add all incremential backups files since the last full backup and the last Full Backup file as well.
