The following procedure will help in identifying VMs with the potential to cause replication or restoration issues.
1. Connect to a host via terminal emulator program, such as Putty. Set logging for the terminal emulator to save the output to a file on the desktop.
2. At the command prompt, enter the following:
find /vmfs/volumes/ \( -type f -a -name "*.vmdk" -a ! -name "*-flat.vmdk" -a ! -name "*-ctk.vmdk" ! -name "*-delta.vmdk" \) -exec egrep RW {} \;
3. Examine the output file. There will be one line for each virtual disk. The number immediately to the right of the "RW" holds the number of sectors on the disk. Any number ending with 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9 indicates a disk that cannot be replicated or restored with vRanger 6.x.
4, If you wish to replicate using vRanger, the odd-sectored disk must be resized. If you wish to restore this VM, please install vRanger 5.5 on another server and use the Restore by Savepoint Manifest File to restore the VM.
Resizing the disk can also cause allow the VM to be restored by vRanger 6.0 from backups performed AFTER the disk resizing. Please reference https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL100477 for additional information.
