How to create an alarm/alert when datastore reaches a certain threshold? (4270946)

Create a Rule that will fire an alarm/alert notifying that datastore has reached a certain threshold

WORKAROUND:

Log on to Foglight Administration console

Navigate to Administration | Rules & Notifications dashboard

Click on  Create Rule

On the Rule Definition tab, enter a Rule Name

Select 'Multiple-Severity Rule' as the Rule type

Under the Rule Scope, select VMWDatastore as the Topology Type

Type in 'VMWDatastore' in the textbox or click on the green arrow next to the Topology Type pull down menu.

Select Next

Enter a condition for each severity level by clicking on the level and Check the Activate checkbox

Enter the following query in the Condition field that will set the condition to trigger an alarm if the space available falls below 10%

                           If(#capacityAvailable# < 10)

                           return true;

                           else

                           return false;

A percentage condition can be set for each severity level - Warning, Critical & Fatal

Alarm Messages are also configured on this tab. Enter the following:

      [Critical] Only 10% or less space is available on Datastore @name. @freespace MB free

An expression that defines the variables in the messages will need to be configured on the Rule Variable tab

Below are the steps to adding a Rule Variable:

    Select Expression

    Type in the name of the variable

    Enter the expression

   Click on Add

Add the following rule variables using the steps above:

   Name: freespace Expression: return #spaceAvailable#

   Name: name Expression: return scope.get("name")
