Before upgrading vRanger, we recommend that you backup the vRangerPro database. There is no tool within vRanger to backup the database at the moment.
To backup the vRanger database, one can download SQL Management Studio and use the GUI interface to backup the vRanger database. However if you do not want to download and install SQL Management Studio you can always use SQLCMD from a command prompt.
In order to use SQLCMD in order to backup the database, open a CMD prompt on your database server and run the following commands.
To connect to the SQL server:
For default instances using Windows Authentication run:
"sqlcmd -S "
For named instances using Windows Authentication run:
sqlcmd -S \InstanceName
If you are using SQL Authentication use the -U option to specify a user.
sqlcmd -U sqlaccount -S \InstanceName
Once you connect sucessfully to the SQL instance, you can backup the database with the following command:
> BACKUP DATABASE vRangerPro TO DISK='X:\folder\filename.bak'
> GO
To execute the command, hit enter. The directory path must exist prior running the backup command.
Once complete you will see results similar to the following:
Processed 12376 pages for database 'vRangerPro', file 'vRangerPro' on file 1.
Processed 1 pages for database 'vRangerPro', file 'vRangerPro_log' on file 1.
BACKUP DATABASE successfully processed 12377 pages in 3.174 seconds (31.944 MB/s)
