During a major outage or data loss event, an organization needs to determine if Identity Recovery can handle a full Disaster Recovery scenario, such as restoring a massive amount of objects or an entire tenant rather than just individual object recovery.
Identity Recovery was originally designed for selective granular object restores. Since then, we have significantly enhanced the product to better support disaster recovery scenarios. Identity Recovery is capable of recovering multiple objects, or even all objects, in the event of a disaster.
When planning for or executing a disaster recovery using Identity Recovery, there are two critical considerations to keep in mind:
Supported Objects and Attributes: Identity Recovery does not support the restoration of all objects and attributes within a tenant. Administrators must review the Identity Recovery for Microsoft Entra ID Supported Attributes Guide to have a full understanding of exactly what is and is not supported for restore.
Performance and Throttling: Restoring a massive number of objects and their complex relationships takes a significant amount of time. During bulk operations, tenant throttling issues can occur and may have to be remediated.
Best Practice: To mitigate throttling and performance bottlenecks, it is highly recommended to perform large-scale DR restores in batches.
