NetVault Plug-in for Sybase 3.2 - User Guide

Client/server environment

A client/server environment is one in which the NetVault Backup Server and the Sybase Adaptive Server are on separate machines, with the Sybase Server acting as a client to the NetVault Backup Server. The following table outlines the software and configuration requirements required to create this environment before you install the plug-in.

IMPORTANT: Plug‑in for Sybase cannot successfully back up data from a client machine whose NetVault Backup name contains a hyphen (“-”). To be a target of a Plug‑in for Sybase backup, a NetVault Backup machine named this way must have NetVault Backup reinstalled and be given a new name that does not use a hyphen.

For details on adding clients to the NetVault Backup Server, see the Quest NetVault Backup Administrator’s Guide.

When many database servers and applications are running, more physical memory, and a higher shared memory setting, may be required.
