SmartDisk cannot be started. After less than a minute it stops while producing the below messages to the open linux terminal session:

The Superserver process is crashing while reading the volume.meta file which is abnormally 0 byte.
Such issue may be a sign of a disk error which should be investigated immediately to prevent potential irreparable damage to SmartDisk.
In this particular case the Content/Disk Index was located on a NFS network mount which experienced I/O issues and showed a 'stale ntfs handle' error and had to be remounted.
* Check that none of the NVSD processes are still running (e.g. ps -fu <smartdisk_user).
* Delete "../smartdisk/store/diskmanager/volume.meta" file (e.g rm ../smartdisk/store/diskmanager/volume.meta ).
* Restart NVSD
* NVSD may appear to hang as it starts up (i.e. not shown as online in NVBU). This is not an issue, and NVSD should be left until it's created a new volume.meta file (unless it's asserted again).
* You may see messages on the console similar to the following;

* This is not an issue. It simply shows that NVSD has re-calculated the values stored in the volume.meta file. These messages will only be shown when the volume.meta file has been deleted, they shouldn't be seen on subsequent restarts.
Note:
After this procedure, some statiscical information for the NVSD Instance may be lost. However this is only the accumlative values and won't affect the future operation of NVSD (or licensing calculations).
