How To Migrate Custom Active Directory Schema Attributes When Using Migration Manager for AD -
Description
When Active Directory is extended it may be desired to copy those new schema values to the target Active Directory. How can this be accomplished? -
Cause
Migration Manager uses a strict criteria for migrating a distinct set of attributes. The lowest version of Active Directory in the migration found of source and target Active Directory is used as the basis for migrating schema attribute values. -
Résolution
The following can be used as the general principles for migrating extended schema attributes in Active Directory:
1. Schema on both source and target domains would have to be extended. QMM copies attribute values only, but it cannot extend AD schemas automatically.
2. Modify the schema xml files which DSA uses to read the attributes from source. This is handled by our custom development department. Please speak with your account manager for further information.

3. Upon the schema change, on the domain pair properties please make some modification, for example change domain controller used to force QMM to renumerate the schema plan used.

NOTE: Pointing to a different DC on domain pair dialog, provided that no preferred DC is defined on DSA properties, can introduce some issues while Directory Sync is in progress. Specifically MVHandler, FeedBack handler and few more that rely on obtaining data from DSA cache can malfunction. It is not recommended to change DC name while directory Sync is in progress. In this case Full Resync is also recommended in the next step to avoid any possible issues.
