How often does a alarm report on Spotlight? Can the reporting be altered to report once every one hour or so?
You can modify the background frequency of the data collecting (which in turn triggers the alarms) by going to Configure | Scheduling, and modify the schedules to your preferences. You need to modify the "Collect in background" parameter.
For example, the following alarms map to the corresponding schedules indicated:
