When accessing "Configuration & Memory" component of Spotlight, the Oracle instance slows down, CPU utilization increases, and sometimes a lot of latch waits occurs.
Oracle bug 3539401 as documented in Doc ID: Note:270704.1
WORKAROUND 1
Contact Oracle Support to see if an Oracle patch is available for the environment.
WORKAROUND 2
Disable the SGA Storage Summary chart from Spotlight to avoid the issue:
1. Exit Spotlight.
2. With Windows Explorer go to the install folder, ..\Plug-ins\SoO. (By default this is C:\Program Files\Quest Software\Spotlight\Plug-ins\SoO).
3. Rename the file sqlSharedPoolMemoryStatus.dat to any other name (or delete it).
4. Run Spotlight, connect, and navigate to the SGA Utilization drilldown. The SGA Storage Summary chart will be blank with the message "This chart is blocked to avoid Oracle bug #3539401".
STATUS
Issue fixed in version 7.0. The latest version of Spotlight on Oracle/RAC can be downloaded here.
The fix will essentially disable the SGA Storage Summary chart for 64-bit database in which this issue seems to occur.
