Error Message: "Skipping incompatible disk"
Description

Backup fails to backup one of the disks on the VM with "Skipping incompatible disk 'Hard disk ” error message.
Cause

One of the disks on the VM is an "Independent" disk.
VMware can’t snapshot independent disks, therefore they cannot be backed up.

Please refer to the following VMware document which indicates the following note:
"An independent disk does not participate in virtual machine snapshots. That is, the disk state will be independent of the snapshot state and creating, consolidating, or reverting to snapshots will have no effect on the disk."
Résolution
Please uncheck “Independent” disk option inside vMware vSphere client, as described in the VMware article, please follow these steps:
1. Power off the virtual machine and delete any existing snapshots before you change the disk mode.
2. Right-click a virtual machine in the inventory and select Edit Settings.
3. On the Virtual Hardware tab, expand Hard disk, and uncheck the independent disk mode option.
