Screen savers can be activated using specific Windows Registry keys, there are several options to configure this Windows feature.
1) To set the screensaver to ‘None‘ a registry element must be created to delete this key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop".
1.1) Create a new registry element, set validation logic according to the element needs and select these settings:
Action: Delete Value
Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key: \Control Panel\Desktop
Value: SCRNSAVE.EXE
Checkbox: "Force use of 32-bit registry locations on 64-bit operating systems" Enabled.
1.2) Select Confirm then Save, then replicate changed files.
2) To set the screensaver to ‘Blank‘ :
2.1) create a registry element to write this key:
Action: Write Value
Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key: \Control Panel\Desktop
Type: REG_SZ
Value: SCRNSAVE.EXE
Data / expression: C:\Windows\system32\scrnsave.scr
Checkbox: "Force use of 32-bit registry locations on 64-bit operating systems" Enabled.
2.2) Click "Confirm" then Click "Save" button and Replicate changed files.
3) To see the list of screen saver options:
3.1) Open a Command Window (running cmd.exe command) and enter: dir c:\windows\system32\*scr /b on regular windows systems it shows the available screensavers.
4) To set the screensaver to ‘Mystify‘:
4.1) Create a registry element to write this key:
Action: Write Value
Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key: \Control Panel\Desktop
Type: REG_SZ
Value: SCRNSAVE.EXE
Data / expression: C:\Windows\system32\mystify.scr
Checkbox: "Force use of 32-bit registry locations on 64-bit operating systems" Enabled.
4.2) Click "Confirm" button then Click "Save" button and Replicate changed files.
5) To change the timeout limit for activating the screen saver:
5.1) Create a registry element to write this key:
Action: Write Value
Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key: \Control Panel\Desktop
Type: REG_SZ
Value: ScreenSaveTimeOut
Data / expression: 600
Checkbox: "Force use of 32-bit registry locations on 64-bit operating systems" Enabled.
5.2) Click "Confirm" button then Click "Save" button and Replicate changed files.
The above command sets the timeout to 10 minutes(regkey stores the value in seconds: 10*60).
6) To change the Password protected option on the screen saver:
6.1) Create a registry element to write this key (please refer to this Microsoft article to find more information):
Action = Write Value
Hive = HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Key = \Control Panel\Desktop
Type = REG_SZ
Value = ScreenSaverIsSecure
Data / expression = 1
and Check "Force use of 32-bit registry locations on 64-bit operating systems" box
6.2) Click "Confirm" button then Click "Save" button and Replicate changed files.
