Setting up Federation. Federator FMS cannot connect to child FMS...
FMS log from Federator FMS shows:
2010-04-28 13:04:07.331 ERROR [UtilityQuartzScheduler_Worker-2] com.quest.nitro.service.federation.FederationConnectionManager - Unable to retrieve federation version information from remote server "jnp://childFMS_ip_or_hostname:1099". The connection to this server has not been established.
java.rmi.ConnectIOException: error during JRMP connection establishment; nested exception is:
Verified FMSFed_Home\config\federation.config file set correctly set to point to correct child FMS ipaddress or hostname
Verify able to ping both ip and hostname from FMS Fed to FMS child
If FMS are Windows Servers, verify Windows Firewall and TCP/IP Protocol filtering are both OFF, or have ports 4444, 1098, 1099 opened (outgoing on Federator FMS, incoming on child FMS)
Try 'telnet fms_child_ip 1099' from Federator. Connection should be established and kept.
In this case, telnet did not make/keep connection, so seems to be something blocking ports. Mcafee Internet Security program was installed on the FMS' - turning it off or opening up ports listed above fixed the issue - the Federator FMS was then able to connect to the child FMS.
