The Remote Agent Managers State per Host (RAMSpH) rule is alerting my UNIX administrators when the Foglight Agent Manager (FglAM) clients on Windows Monitored Hosts are getting disconnected.
How can I direct email alerts to only Solaris or Windows hosts administrators?
The RAMSpH rule alerts on the fact the FglAM client has stopped communicating regardless of the O/S type.
Remove your UNIX administrators from the RAMSpH rule email action and use the procedure below once the FMS version is 5.5.5 or higher.
Foglight 5.5.5 introduced the ability to send emails based on a defined Service.
NOTE: In 5.7.5. FMS the RAMSpH rule is obsoleted by the 'Disconnected Agent Manager Clients' rule.
Reference the attached document "Service Builder - Service Emails by OS Type" for the procedure and screenshots.
One could define a Category in Service Builder, then create an O/S Service for each O/S type within that Category and define the appropriate os.name = 'type' as a rule within the service. By defining an email target for each O/S Service, the appropriate admininstrator could then be notified of any alerts for that O/S type.
Generally:
1) Create Category
2) Create Global ChildService for each O/S type
3) Create a Rule for an O/S type to include a group of components for each ChildService
4) Create the target email address for each ChildService O/S type.
