Is it possible to alert on situations where there are network issues between the FMS and its database which is located on a different host.
Errors in the FMS log similar to the following are seen:
com.quest.nitro.service.util.JDBCHelper - An unexpected error occurred which may cause undesired behavior. You may want to contact Quest Software customer support if you see this error again: Error querying database metadata
java.sql.SQLException: Closed Connection
and the FMS appears to be hung - no alarms of any kind are raised and browser connections to the Foglight web console time out. Restarting the FMS resolves the issue.
Not directly. By their very nature network issues between the FMS and the Foglight database can mean that Foglight is in a non functioning state.
If you have other FMSes what you can do is deploy a WebMonitor or NetMonitor agent (depending if the FMS or the FMS host are unreaachable respectively) against another FMS to monitor the FMS which sufferred from the outage.
