Description
When monitoring the MySQL database 8.0.12. mySQL cartridge 5.9.2.1 get the following exception in the agent log

com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException: Could not create connection to database server. -
Cause
CAUSE 1
The 5.9.2.1 and lower releases of the MySQL cartridge use the 5.1.XX versions of the JDBC Connector/J MySQL driver which is not compatible with MySQL 8 databases.
CAUSE 2
Issue with the mysql-connector-java with MySQL 8.0 and higher on Redhat (RHEL) Operating Systems.

Status
The MySQL Connector/J JDBC driver was upgraded to 8.0.12 beginning with MySQL cartridge versions 5.9.3.10.
The MySQL Connector/J JDBC driver for MySQL cartridge version 5.9.4.10 or higher uses MySQL Connector/J 8.0.14

Please download the 5.9.5.22 or higher release of the MySQL cartridge which includes the maria-java-client 2.2.5 driver. The 5.9.5.22 MySQL cartridge is attached to this KB.
- Navigate to Administration | Agents | Agent Status
- Select the MySQL agent
- Click the Edit Properties button
- Click the link to edit the private properties of the agent
- Change the radio button to Use Alternatve MariaDB JDBC Driver to true
- Click the Save button

Additional Information
The problem is the compatibility of older versions of MySQL Connector/J with MySQL 8. Please, ensure customer is using MySQL Connector/J 8.0.11 (or a higher version). Depending on the MySQL database version if it requires MySQL Server 5.0 driver, those MySQL servers version will not be supported because the latest cartridge 5.9.4.10 uses MySQL Connector/J 8.0.14. Putting FglAM in Debug mode will capture additional logs for Support after replicating the connection issue: Via UI: Go to "Administration | Agents | Agent Managers" and find the column "Debug level" in the table. Click on the "Edit" icon for the FglAM you want to set into debug mode, select the debug level and click on "Save". Select “Extremely verbose debug logging” To stop the debug mode select "Debug logging disabled" and click on "Save".
