We have an APM physical appliance with a Foglight Management Server (FMS) component installed onto it. How do we upgrade the version of JBoss used by the FMS (to serve the web UI). The version of JBoss used, version 4.2.3, is end-of-life, so there are no patches being made for this version. So that means there's going to be no further security fixes/patches made to fix any new vulnerabilities discovered. So we want to get onto a more recent branch of the JBoss server.
A previous version of APM, version 5.9.7, ships with FMS version 5.6.10, which still uses JBoss 4.2.3.
In Foglight 5.7 and above, we are using JBoss as a library only for backward compatibility of some systems. The core application server that we are using is a fairly up to date version of Tomcat--we replaced JBoss with Apache Tomcat 7.0.55 for HTTP and HTTPS traffic.
We're basically using some JBoss components (jdbc, tx, ha/jgroups) but technically Foglight is not running inside JBoss anymore in the recent versions of FMS. We are planning to get rid of all JBoss libraries to get away from JBoss 4.2.3 completely. This task is being tracked as FGL-15960:"Remove JBoss 4.2.3".
There's no way to upgrade just the JBoss version on an APM physical appliance.
However, the two most recent versions (5.9.8 and 5.9.9) of the APM physical appliance ships with FMS version 5.7.1.
So, upgrade your APM to version 5.9.8 or above, and you will have FMS version 5.7.1, and no longer be using JBoss as the application server to serve the FMS web UI.
