Foglight NMS is the network monitoring agent for the Foglight Management Server (FMS). By unifying the products' capabilities together, the critical metrics gathered while monitoring devices such as routers and switches show you how they impact application performance. This integration provides the ability to monitor the status and performance of network devices (including switches and routers) through the Foglight browser interface. Also, alerts generated by these network devices appear in the Foglight dashboard.
You must have the following products installed in order for Foglight Native Integration to work.
- Foglight Management Server (FMS) version 5.6.3 or vFoglight Management Server version 6.6.1
NOTE: It is recommended that you do not install Foglight NMS on the same machine as FMS.
- Foglight Network Management Server (NMS) version 6.9
- Dependency Mapping Cartridge version 5.6.2
This cartridge is used to store and display all the NetFlow data. You will need this cartridge for NetFlow data to appear in Foglight.
- NMS Agent Cartridge version 560-20120424-1420
This cartridge is used to call a web service in Foglight NMS. By default, this agent is installed on the same machine as the Foglight Management Server.
- Forge 5.6.3
NOTE: You do not need to install the Web Service Integration Cartridge for Foglight Native Integration.
Benefits of Using Foglight Native Integration vs. the older version Foglight Integration
Setting up Foglight Native Integration is much more simpler than before and it provides more information for a larger set of data types. The previous version of Foglight Integration was limited to sending over NetFlow traffic data and alerts. Data for CPU, Memory, Network Interface, and Disk Space are available in Foglight Management Server (FMS) using the new Foglight Native Integration. Additionally, Foglight Native Integration provides more robust NetFlow traffic data and alerts information.
The way data is sent to and from the applications has also changed. After you synchronized Foglight NMS with FMS, Foglight NMS would push data to FMS. With Foglight Native Integration, FMS pulls data from Foglight and displays it in FMS using its UI and gadget format.
To properly configure Foglight Native Integration, please go through and complete each one of the following steps:
STEP 1: Installing the Depending Mapping Cartridge
STEP 2. Installing the NMS Agent Cartridge
STEP 3. Deploying the NMS Agent
STEP 4. Selecting the Devices for Integration
