Cause
From time to time may be by a requirement a name change on a VMware ESX host, although this is quite straight forward to do in ESXi via the Direct Console User Interface (DCUI) there are a few more steps involved in making this change in ESX via the service console (SC). Basically Foglight will collect and reflect the DNS names configure at vCenter level.
Resolution
Steps:
1. Log into the service console using the ‘root’ account.
2. Edit the hosts file vi /etc/hosts
3. Edit/ Add the IP address and host name (esxhost1)
4. Save the changes ( ESC + w:q )
Right after the name are changed in the vCenter. The VMware Performance Agents require to be removed from the Dashboard | Agents | Agent Status and then re-add them via VMware Enviroment Administration tab starting the wizard by hitting the Add button
