Navigate to the SQL Server cartridge agent library directory (cd. {fglam location}\agents\DB_SQL_Server\{cartridge version}\lib
Run the connection utility batch file (e.g. mssql-connection-test-5.7.5.50-bat.bat or .\mssql-connection-test-5.7.5.41-ksh.ksh)
Enter the path location for the Foglight java home when the bin folder is located (e.g. {foglight}\jre)
Users will be presented with the following options.
MSSQL Connection Test:
1. Database Connection
2. WMI Connection (with FglAM OS Services)
3. WMI Connection (with QSI Service)
4. PA Connection
5. Azure Connection
6. VMWare Connection
7. Exit
Select the option corresponding to the connection being tested.
As examples:
To test a SQL Server Database Agent connection, select option 1
- Create a subfolder called "test" in the lib folder
- Enter the hostname, then press Enter
- Enter the DB_Instance name and press Enter, or press Enter to use the DEFAULT_INSTANCE on the monitored host
- Enter the port and press Enter, or press Enter to use default port 1433
- Enter a 1, 2, or 3 for the Authentication type (1 Windows Default Account, 2 Windows Custom Account, 3 SQL Server Authentication)
- Enter the DB Username, and press Enter
- Enter the DB Password, and press Enter (this password will be hidden in the input, as indicated by the leading character entering the value will be an asterisk (*) character)
- Enter a 1, 2, or 3 for the SSL connection type (1 Off, 2 Optional, 3 Manditory)
- Enter a 1, 2, or 3 for the SQL Query to test (1 None, 2 SQL, 3 File)
- Enter the Connection Time Out in seconds, and press Enter
- Enter the number of iterations to run the query
To test a WMI connection using the Agent Manager services, select option 2
- Enter the target hostname, then press Enter
- Enter the FglAM hostname, then press Enter
- Enter the Agent name, then press Enter
- Enter the RMI port and press Enter, or press enter to accept the default
- Enter a WMI query to test and press Enter, or press Enter to accept the default query
- Enter a Connection TimeOut value in seconds, then press Enter
To test a WMI connection using JInterop (this requires Windows registry permissions), select option 3
- Enter the Hostname
- Enter the Domain\User
- Enter the password (this password will be hidden in the input, as indicated by the leading character entering the value will be an asterisk (*) character)
- Enter a WMI query to test or press Enter to accept the default query
- Enter a Connection TimeOut value in seconds.
