RESOLUTION:
1. CHOOSE NETWORK SETTINGS:
A. Choose the appliance "FVE vApp" in vSphere and go to the upper and click on Inventory | Hosts and Clusters.
B. Choose the first vm "FMS" right click on it and choose "Edit Settings..." (newer version called FMS)
C. Go to Hardware - Networkadapter 1, on the right hand under "Network label:"
Select correct vswtich you want attach.
D. Follow the same steps for the other vm "DBS" (newer version called DB)
2.START UP ORDER
These are vApp settings by default, still we can check those:
A. Go to the vApp "FVE-vApp" right click and go to "Edit Settings.."
B. Go to "Start Order", for Group 1 it should have only "DBS"
C. For Group 2 it should have "FMS" only.
both VMs servers must be in the same vlan
Now right click on "FVE-vApp" and choose "Power On"
3. POSTGRES SETTINGS
A. Open a Remote session to "DBS" and login using "root" username and password "password".
B. To check if POSTGRES is running type: ps –ef | grep –i postgresql
Also, to check the status and the runtime you can use:
/etc/init.d/postgresql status
C. In order to connect to the database please switch to the foglight user using:
su - foglight
You can login to the database using this command:
psql DBNAME USERNAME
Example:
psql foglight foglight
Once you can log in, you will see a message like this:
psql (9.2.14, server 9.4.1)
WARNING: psql version9.2, server version 9.4
Some psql features might not work.
type "help" for help.
foglight=>
D. Do a quick query: select * from sec_user

To exit Postgres press Ctrl Z
4.CHECK NETWORK CARD CONFIG ON "DBS" server
A.Type log in with root user: su -
B.Then Type: ifconfig
This should be the result:
eth1 should be: 192.168.200.2
Bcast: 192.168.200.255
5.SSL FROM "DBS" to "FMS"
A. Type:
ssh foglight@192.168.200.1
B. To check Foglight logs type: cd /home/foglight/FVE
Then type: ls -al
C. Get the latest logs, type:
cd logs
ls –ltr
tail -f Managementserver_2014-09-1xxxxx.log ( the latest FMS log)
6.CHECK "FMS" SERVICES
A. Type: Service –status-all
B. SSH to "FMS" again:
ssh foglight@192.168.200.1
See if it is still starting.
Once it is started, there will be a webpage link where FVE can be accessed
7. COMMANDS SUMMARY
Important items to check:
- Make sure to chose the right Switch for the VM
- psql DBNAME USERNAME
- Select * sec_user;
- From FMS server it may take more than 5 minutes to come up, in the meantime you can
ssh foglight@192.168.200.1 - Go to cd /home/foglight/FVE/logs/
- ls –ltr
- tail –f ManagementServers_2014xxxxx.log
- Check if service is running: ps -ef | GREP postgresql
Or use: /etc/init.d/postgresql status
- Stop Postgres Service (do not use it unless support ask you to do it): service postgresql stop
8. STOP AND RESTART FMS VAPP DAEMON
A. Login to the FMS vApp with foglight user:
su foglight
foglight
B. Navigate to foglight bin directory typing the following command:
cd /home/foglight/Quest/Foglight/bin/
C. Stop the FMS daemon:
./fmsShutdown.sh
D. Start the FMS daemon:
cd /home/foglight/Quest/Foglight/bin/
./fmsStartup.sh
E. Check that the FMS Daemon process is running:
ps –ef | grep –i foglight
9. RESTART FGLAM:
A. Login to Foglight User Interface and navigate to the following section:
Administration | Agents | Agent Managers
B. Locate the Agent Manager that needs to be restarted, click on the checkbox and then click "Restart" button.
Note: For easier Network Configuration use either Yast or Yast2(you can change the NIC name) , please check guideline Change the network settings

This is information for older MYSQL vAPP Setttings:
A. Connect to "FVE-MySQL" and login using "root" username and password.
B. To check if MYSQL is running we type: ps –ef | grep –i mysql
With this command: mysql –u foglight -p
See if the Daemon started but the server did not start completely.
Run this command a couple of times if the database still does not come up:
mysql –u foglight -p
C. Then check if the status of the database is still in progress and it is not fully started.
D. Try again using: mysql –u foglight -p
Once you can log in you will see a message like this:

E. Type : use foglight;
That will tell mysql to use foglight database
F. Check if service is running
G. Stop MySQL(do not use it unless support ask you to do it):
service mysql stop
