Want to use vFoglight Storage to monitor my Brocade switches. How to configure the Brocade SMI agent to talk to vFoglight Storage ?
Please download and install the Brocade SMI agent from Brocade. The information here is a guide to help with the installation, but should not be used in place of Brocades documentation. Any information from Brocade will supersede this article.
1) Download the Brocade SMI agent.
vFoglight Storage does not need the DCFM suite to monitor switches, but only the non-integrated and stand alone SMI agent. NOTE: vFoglight storage has not been tested with DCFM.

2) Install the Brocade SMI agent on a DIFFERENT server from vFoglight Storage.
The Brocade SMI agent must be installed on a different server from vFoglight Storage. Installing the Brocade SMI agent with all defaults will work for vFoglight Storage, but install the SMI agent according to your environment and business needs.
On the server with the Brocade SMI agent installed either turn off the windows firewall, or open the necessary ports to talk to the Brocade SMI agent. As of the writing of this document ports 5988/TCP and 5989/TCP were the only ports that needed to be opened for incoming traffic.
NOTE: The installation of the Brocade SMI agent has been tested on 32 bit windows server 2003 (R2). For other operating systems, please contact Brocade.
3) Configure the Brocade SMI agent
To show the configuration of the Brocade SMI agent, here is the stand alone SMI agent version 120.9.0.
All Programs | SMIAgent120.9.0 | Brocade SMI Agent Configuration Tool
When the configuration tool comes up, add the Proxies for your Brocade switch fabric. Only one switch in each fabric is necessary (or allowed). Once the switches have been added, click Apply and the status should change to “connected”. If it does not, please contact Brocade for assistance.

4) Configure vFoglight Storage.
Configure the Brocade FC Switch setup to be the IP address (or DNS name) of the server with the Brocade SMI agent installed. Use the user ID and Password for the Brocade switches.
vFoglight storage will discover all the switches in the fabric once it connects to a single switch through the Brocade SMI agent.
If you would like to see an example of the SMIs configuration, below is a Video of the entire process described in this solution including vFoglight Storage configuration.
