Generating a DSET report is ususally the first step for DELL hardware engineer to troubleshoot a hardware related issue in your FxM/FxV appliances. In FxM this report could be generated through its setup command console. However we could not do it in FxV command console so far because of its used Linux distribution.
So for FxV getting a DSET report, we need manually download the ISO image file and burn it to a CD or bootbale flash drive, and then to boot the appliance using the CD or flash drive. The following describes in detail about where to download the file, how to run DSET report and how to extract the result.
Please download and burn the ISO. The ISO is a Live Linux distribution with our diagnostic utilities to troubleshoot failing hardware. The ISO can take up to twenty minutes to boot and may display errors that appear as if it is failing -- simply be patient and it will proceed eventually.

Once booted and/or downloaded to run the DSET report simply double click the icon on the desktop "Launch DSET". If you are inside OMSA Live then a terminal will open and it will begin to run automatically.
Now that the report has completed you need to transfer it back to us for review. If you booted to OMSA Live then you can point a web browser to this machine and download the report. If dhcp is available on your network then the interfaces will be automatically configured. To learn your systems IP address: open a terminal window from the desktop and type 'ip addr show'. If you are unable to transfer using the network for some reason then, please mount a USB key and copy the DSET report by using a command such as:
'mkdir /mnt/usb; mount -o rw /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb; cp /tmp/data/*.zip /mnt/usb; umount /mnt/usb'
After copying the DSET report it is now necessary to clear the hardware logs from the system. Inside of OMSA Live this can be completed by executing by executing : "/opt/dell/dset/clearesm.sh" or by re-running the DSET standalone command and choosing option 3. Should you need to run diagnostics then you can do so by entering the F10 system services menu as the machine boots. If your machine is not equipped with the system services, then you can reboot to the OMSA Live disk again and run diagnostics by pressing any key within 5 seconds as it boots then choosing the diagnostics option.
Lastly, there are two different types of diagnostics -- system or memory. If you wish to test all of the system components then choose the express test option, otherwise choose the custom test to specifically test certain hardware. If running the memory tests then choose the MpMemory diagnostics enter "0" for infinite number passes. This will create a load on the machine and test the memory until you stop it.
