If a List with Choice Columns was created in 2013 and the Content Type Item is made Hidden/Optional those columns will migrate with column empty to SPO
Cause

Bug found in Essential 2.2, Choice Column Content Type Item can not be made Hidden/Optional
Resolution

Upgrade to Essential version 2.2.3
