The following steps can be used to install the AD LDS in Windows Server 2012 R2.
1. Install the AD LDS Role via the Server Manager and leave any features selected that are installed automatically with the role.
2. Once the setup is completed you will need to run the Post Set Task which can be found by selecting AD LDS in the left hand column of the Server Manager. There will be a yellow ribbon across the top that says "Configuration required for AD LDS Service at SERVERNAME". Click on the More link to start the setup wizard.
3. Click next past the first screen of the wizard and select "A unique instance" and click next.
4. You can name the instance anything that you'd like and click next.
5. We recommend leaving the default port of 389 but you can change this to any available port and then click next.
6. Select "No, do not create an application directory partition." and then click next.
7. You can hit next through the storage paths unless you'd like to specify another path. You can do so here and then click next.
8. On the Service Account Selection screen select "This Account" and type in the DMM Service Account that you created for the DMM Project.
9. Add the DMM Service Account to the AD LDS Administrators if it's not currently logged in, and then click on next.
10. Do not import any LDIF Files, and click on next 2 times to complete the wizard.
Now you can complete the DMM Project wizard by typing in the name of the server you installed AD LDS on along with the port number.
