Mobile devices such as Android and iOS phones are not able to open archived message shortcuts created by Metalogix Archive Manager due to limitations of mobile e-mail clients. Mobile E-mail clients lack the ability to perform scripted operations like Outlook for workstations, so when users attempt to open archived messages on their mobile device the client will only open the shortcut item in the user's mailbox. While the shortcut for the message contains the sender, recipient, subject, and body text of the e-mail you will notice that attachments are not accessible since they are no longer stored in Exchange.
If users are frequently using mobile devices to access their e-mail and need to access attachments we recommend using a retention policy which delays the creation of shortcuts. The most common setting for this is to delay shortcut creation by 90 days so that users have a longer period of time to work with the full e-mail in their mailbox but the message will also be in the archive.
Another option is the use the Universal Access optional feature of Archive Manager which allows you to setup a separate e-mail profile on mobile devices that connections directly to the archive server. Please keep in mind this requires opening ports in your firewall to the archive server and users will have to have two mail profiles on their device, one for Exchange and the other for the archive. Due to some confusion this can cause for users this feature isn't used by most of our customers but it is available if needed.
