Description:
Internal FAQ - NDMP backups generate larger tape backups than source data -
NB - this is not to made public on the web as it quotes netapp bug ids etc...
Symptoms:
NDMP backups to tape generate dump volumes that are significantly larger in volume than the source data
held within the filer volume/qtree on disk.
There is known ontap issue - ref netapp Bug ID 152072 : -
If a data set has more than ~4,000 ACLs, then file data may be mistakenly
written out in addition to NT ACL data during Phase V (NT ACLs) of dump.
Symptoms of this bug include: Data written taking up significantly more
space than what is being dumped or dump appearing to loop in Phase V.
The workaround is to de-select the 'backup ACLS' option within the ndmp plugin options -
their is a fix listed for this fault within:
ontap 7.0.0.1P1
ontap 7.0.3
However if the deselection of the ACL backup option does not resolve this then it's another issue
currently bakbone NDMP R&D team have a fault call open with Netapp ref - #1221894
Please do supply this case reference to customers as it will be if no use to them and they need
to open a seperate call with netapp using their support contract.
