Smartdisk services stopped after running several months with no problems. Disk space for the installation of Smartdisk upon a local drive still indicated several GB's free. The Volumes for Stage and Storage have several 100GB's free as well.
There was not change to Netvautl backup or Netvault Smartdisk such as upgrades, uninstalls or reinstalls.
Smartdisk was fully licensed.
'smartdisk start' would start the processes momentarily, but after running a 'smartdisk status' a couple of minutes later it would show that the services stopped. "Failed to connect to Percolator Slave".

The Cause of the services to stop and unable to restart was due to the fact that the Netvault Smartdisk Users password had expired. Thus it could not login with thsi account to Smartdisk.
Check the smartdisk non-priv user has a password, that the user cannot change the password and that the password does not expire, then use the following commands to tell SmartDisk the password...
cd <smartdisk_install_dir>\foundation\bin
smartdisk password <user> <password> [<domain>]
Where <domain> is the domain whose account database will be used to validate the <user>/<password> combination before the <password> is stored. If this argument is absent, password will use the local machine account database.
