How to Detach and Unmount a Repository from the Core (4041680)

In some scenarios, you may need to detach an existing repository from the Core while preserving its data. As of Rapid Recovery 6.9, this can be done through the GUI by unmounting the repository without stopping the Core service. For versions 6.8 and earlier, the repository must be detached manually.

At times, it may be necessary to remove a repository from the Rapid Recovery configuration while preserving its data.

Examples include:

• Importing an archive into a temporary repository.
• The repository contains some corrupted or undesirable recovery points, but the existing data must be retained.
• During an in-place OS upgrade, it is recommended to disconnect the repository from the Core.
• A repository was cloned and stored on separate storage; however, historical data has since been removed from the active repository due to rollups. In this case, the data can only be restored by accessing the cloned repository.

Starting with Rapid Recovery 6.9, there is an option to unmount a repository using the GUI and without stopping the Core service. 

To detach the repository, please perform the following steps:

1. Make sure that Core is not performing any tasks and either wait for their completion or cancel active tasks if possible.
2. Stop the Core service gracefully.
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AppRecovery\Core\Repositories and export it.
4. Each subkey is a unique repository ID. Make sure that the proper repository is being selected before deleting it.
5. Re-start the Core service.

Repository is now detached.
