Welcome to Foglight Cost Director

Business are challenged with know which workloads to move to the cloud. Foglight® Cost Director alleviates this problem by allowing businesses to know the true costs associated with running your data center to help you truly understand the cost of new VMs, environment growth, planned changes, and whether or not Cloud is going to really save you money.

These Release Notes cover the resolved issues, known issues, workarounds, and other important information about the 5.8.3 release of Foglight Cost Director. Review all sections before starting installation.

TORCD-2521

The value of "I/O Operation Cost per 100,000" can only show 3 decimal places by default, so the value of this metric cannot be less than 0.001.

COSTD-155

It's not allowed to change the name of default Organization/ Business Unit/ Price Plan/ Storage Price Plan.

COSTD-166

Sometimes some values will not changed to default vaule when resetting price plan.

COSTD-170

Cannot edit the name of Organization/ Business Unit/ Price Plan, therefore, duplicated names exist.

 

 


Upgrade and compatibility

Foglight Cost Director 5.8.3 requires Management Server version 5.9.8 and Foglight Agent Manager version 5.9.8. It also requires Foglight for VMware Lite version 5.8.3 and Foglight for Hyper-V Lite version 5.8.3.

System requirements

Product licensing

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. Any Management Server installation requires a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and Foglight for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license.

Foglight Cost Director is covered by the Foglight Evolve Operate and Flex license and Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition license.

 

To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:

  1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Setup > Manage Licenses.
  2. Click Install.
  3. In the Install License dialog box, click Browse.
  4. In the file browser that appears, specify the location of the license file.
  5. In the Install License dialog box, click Install License.

 


Getting started with Foglight Cost Director

Contents of the release package

Foglight Cost Director 5.8.3 is a software release, and consists of the .car file required for installation on the Management Server and the necessary documentation.

 

The Foglight Cost Director release package contains the following products:

Installation instructions

Foglight Cost Director 5.8.3 comes pre-installed on Foglight Evolve 9.3 or Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.9.3.

 

Foglight Cost Director can be installed on the Foglight Management Server versions listed in the Upgrade and Compatibility section.

 

To install Foglight Cost Director:

  1. Download the following packages from Quest Support Portal:
  2. On the Cartridge Inventory dashboard, install the following cartridge files. The sequence of cartridge installation is important because of their dependencies:
    1. Virtual-VMware-Lite-5_8_3.car
    2. OptimizerAutomation-5_8_3.car
    3. CommonAnalytics-5_8_3.car
    4. Virtual-HyperV-Lite-5_8_3.car
    5. Cost-Director-5_8_3.car
