Trying to install Change Auditor may result in the following error:
"Fatal error verifying supplied credentials. Please verify that SQL server is functional"
Use a UDL (Data Link) file to test the connection to the SQL server:
If the UDL test fails with an error that the server was not found, confirm the SQL servername (and instance if applicable) is correct. Confirm you can telnet to the port the SQL server is listening on (default is 1433) from the CA server. If the SQL server is using a non-standard port, enter the port name in the UDL test (and in the installer) in the format SQLServerName, PortNumber.
If you get an access denied or logon error, ensure the account you are using has sufficient rights on the SQL server (db_creator, security admin if this is a new install, or db_owner if upgrading).
An error similar to the following would indicate an authentication or encryption issue. Confirm TLS is not an issue:
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (SECDoClientHandshake())
OR
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL. Server does not exist or access denied
The installer will not be able to complete it if the native Microsoft UDL test does not succeed. If the UDL fails to connect, that is a communication issue between the server where you are trying to install and the SQL server, not an issue with Change Auditor.
