QUESTION:
The DR appliance is very loud. Is there a way to throttle how high the fan speeds are and manually throttle them?
ANSWER:
Yes.
This will have to be done by Support as it requires the Service account to make the below changes:
( Caution: Before enable throttling of fans Support should collect a Diag bundle from the appliance and check that the appliance is not running hot. )
Here is the procedure:
13G systems only
**As service**
Get current status of 3rd party fan response
/opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/racadm get system.thermalsettings.thirdpartypcifanresponse
disable 3rd party fan response
/opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/racadm set system.thermalsettings.thirdpartypcifanresponse 0
check that it is set status of 3rd party fan response (if didnt change run above again and check)
/opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/racadm get system.thermalsettings.thirdpartypcifanresponse
You can check current fanspeed profile here
/opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/racadm get system.thermalsettings
set thermal profile to a top speed of medium
/opt/dell/srvadmin/sbin/racadm set system.thermalsettings.fanspeedoffset 2
Now you can throttle fan speed via IDRAC.
