Understanding the term: "SmartDisk Capacity Based Licensing".
SmartDisk Capacity Based Licensing is based on the Logical Capacity or Total Size (before deduplication) of all backups stored in NVSD.
NVSD Licensed Capacity is not based on the following: The actual size of the Storage Pool, Staging Store, or Chunk Store. The actual size of the backups after deduplication.
For example, you’re licensed for 10TB of SmartDisk capacity without the deduplication option. Full Backups of a Exchange Server comprise 256GB of space. Every time you perform a Full Backup of the Exchange Server, 256GB is deducted from the 10TB of SmartDisk capacity. After the first backup the remaining SmartDisk capacity is 9.75TB. If the data has not expired and the another backup is run, the remaining SmartDisk capacity is reduced again by another 256GB to a 9.50TB.
If you purchased the deduplication option, every time you perform a Full Backup of their Exchange Server, the same 256GB is still deducted from the 10TB of SmartDisk capacity. The deduplication option just provides the ability to store 256GB on a smaller amount of physical disk space. How much smaller would depend upon the deduplication factor their particular data obtained.
