Description: How to setup Domain Management without accessing the NetVault server
Symptoms: Customer needs to know how to setup a Domain, but doesn't have access to the NetVault server (for example, doesn't have a GUI on it).
To set this up do the following:
The same Netvault versions must be in use. Meaning the Netvault Server version and the machine chosen to manage the Nvserver must be on the same NV version.
1. The easiest way to set up Domain Management (DM) on a remote machine to manage the NetVault server is to install the server version of the NetVault software on the remote machine. If you currently have the Netvault client installed, uninstall the client version of the software from the DM machine and install the server version to the DM machine.
2. On the DM machine, launch the NetVault GUI. In the NetVault GUI, choose from the Administration drop down menu and select Domain Management. Add the actual NetVault server to the Controlling server side. It will ask you for a password. This is the password for the NetVault Server. Use the Administrator (Windows) or UNIX/Linux (root users) password. Once added right click on that machine and select Make Default.
3. Close the GUI on the DM machine then reopen it. You should now be controlling the NetVault server.
4. Once you have verified that you can control the NetVault server (step 3), Go into the NVGUI, Administration, Domain Management, and remove the local server as a controlled server. Once this is done, no NetVault license will be required for the Domain Management server.
