How to Configure Email Alarm Notification settings for Foglight Cartridge for SQL Server instances?
- To configure email notifications, at the alarm level for the database agents, login to Foglight Web console with the foglight user, Under Homes click on Databases.
- Select an instance to configure its email notification settings. Notice the configure alarms button illuminates for access. Admissions to alarms are also accessible via administration. To suffice in configuring more than one instance with the same email notifications select all the agents that apply and Click Configure alarms.
- Upon entering the Database Alarms view, the selected agents to receive the same configured email notifications and/or alarm settings are listed under Selected agents upper right corner.
Working in the Settings tab: The Alarms view contains predefined rules organized by all alarms, a category of rules, or a single rule.
Within this Alarms view, you can customize alarm settings and email notifications for all alarms, a category of rules, or a single rule.
To configure email notifications Decide on the scope for the change: will it apply to all alarms, a category of rules, or a selected individual rule.
Click a category of choice for setting up email notifications. For this exercise the configured email notifications will be for a particular category such as the Locks category as opposed to a selected rule in which should be simple enough to apply the same principles directly against it.
Click the Define Email Settings button to proceed with configuring the email notification settings and a dialogue box pops up. This box will only display upon configuring against All Alarms or a category of rules, not for an individual rule.
To change which severity levels that warrant an email notification select the desired levels of severity From the Messages will be enabled for severities dropdown,
To configure the same email recipients and messages for all severity levels, select Configure settings for all severities and then click All severities.
To configure different email recipients and messages for each of the severity levels, select Configure severity specific settings and then click a severity level to configure different email notifications for each level.
In the Message Settings dialog box, configure the email recipients. You can enter in an email address, multiple email addresses separated by comma or created registry variables.
Uncheck Use default email address to override this option if using email addresses other than the default.
In the To field — Type the addresses of the people who need to take action when this alarm triggers. In the CC — Type the addresses of the people who want to be notified when the alarm triggers.
The subject is Optional to configure, added text will be included with the default message. The default message uses variables, Avoid editing the variables which are identified with the @ symbol seen at the individual rule level.
Finally is Body Prefix — any Added text should appear above the alarm default message in the body of the email.
Click Set to set the email configurations for saving.
Notice the check mark next to severities to acknowledge the configurations in the Notifications Settings Box. Click set to further stage the changes and exit out.

Each enabled rule in the category now has the configured email notifications for the selected agents. You can verify by selecting the agents separately from the databases dashboard and reentering the alarms view. Repeat the process to configure additional email notifications for the rules when needed. At this point the configurations are complete
