Welcome to Foglight for Container Management

Containers is a method of an operating system virtualization that allows you to run an application and the dependencies in a resource-isolated process. Foglight® for Container Management simplifies this process by tracking each container, the resources it consumes and the remaining compute of the container host. Moreover, it provides a cluster information and the pre-configured rules with notifications that identifies the problem of your clusters.

 

This Release Notes covers the resolved issues, known issues, workarounds and some other important information about the 6.3.0 release of Foglight for Container Management. Review all sections before starting installation.

This 6.3.0 release of Foglight for Container Management accompanies the release of Foglight Evolve 6.3.0. This release does not include and resolved issues or enhancements.

Upgrade and compatibility 

TThis 6.1.x release of Foglight for Container Management accompanies the release of Foglight Evolve 6.1.x and Foglight for Virtualization, Enterprise Edition 8.9.3. The following Foglight product versions and platforms are compatible with this release.

Upgrade Process

To upgrade the Foglight for Container Management to the latest version:

  1. Foglight for Container Management will be upgraded if Foglight Evolve is upgraded.
  2. Then deploy the new agent cartridge to the FglAM that holds your Container agents, including Kubernetes agents and Docker Swarm agents.
  3. When upgrading the cartridge from version prior to 3.0.0 or if you are still using Heapster in version 3.0.0, then after upgrading, metrics collector related columns might be displayed in Container > Kubernetes > Administration Tab > Agents Table with type Heapster displayed. It is recommended to migrate Heapster metric collector to Prometheus metric collector.  To migrate to Prometheus, click the Migrate button for each agent. Then A Migrate wizard will be launched. For detailed information, refer to the Administration section in Foglight for Container Management User and Administration Guide.

Note: Kubernetes Agents migrated from Heapster to Prometheus will fail to collect metrics when using Prometheus configured to use Authentication other than Kubernetes Authentication.

 


System requirements

Product licensing

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. Any Management Server installation requires a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and Foglight for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license.

For Foglight for Container Management, the Monitoring features are covered by Foglight Evolve Monitor, Cloud, Operate, and Flex license, while the Cost, Optimizer, and Capacity Management features are covered by Foglight Evolve Flex, Operate, and Cloud license.

 

To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:

  1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Setup > Manage Licenses.
  2. Click Install.
  3. In the Install License dialog box, click Browse.
  4. In the file browser that appears, specify the location of the license file.
  5. In the Install License dialog box, click Install License.

Foglight for Container Management 6.3.0 is a software release, and consists of the .car file required for installation on the Management Server and the necessary documentation.

Foglight for Container Management 6.3.0 comes pre-installed on Foglight Evolve 6.3.0.

Foglight for Container Management can be installed on the Foglight Management Server versions listed in the Upgrade and Compatibility section.

 

To install Foglight for Container Management:

  1. Download the following packages from Quest Support Portal:
  2. On the Cartridge Inventory dashboard, install the following cartridge files. The sequence of cartridge installation is important because of their dependencies:

    2. DRP-6_3_0.car
    3. OptimizerAutomation-6_3_0.car
