Cause
In the ULS log of the SharePoint time job server - this error was found

(Correlation=c89caa9e-6321-20f5-7154-80af128c5195)].
Database with Id 398bb785-89c4-461a-822a-7908da6baa91 was not found in database collection. Returning null.

Resolution
This was down to the Firewall blocking communication between the SharePoint timer job server and the SQL server where the xcAdmin database was located.
