You are migrating to SharePoint 2013 from SharePoint 2007 or 2010. However, you find that the Minimal Download Strategy feature is not available after the migration.
In SharePoint 2013, Minimal Download Strategy (MDS) is not available on sites with the Publishing feature. For an overview of MDS, please click here.
You may be able to modify your job configuration to take advantage of the new MDS functionality in SharePoint 2013. However, this is not available when copying sites from SharePoint 2007 or 2010, which are using Publishing site templates.
If you are migrating sites such as Team Sites and those sites that have the Publishing feature activated, MDS will not function on the target SharePoint 2013 site. More specifically, if you have enabled the option to copy site features as part of your site migration, this will activate the Publishing feature on the target.
To make sure that you are able to use MDS on the target when copying any SharePoint 2007/2010 site template (except for Publishing site templates as mentioned above), you need to disable the option to copy site features. This will ensure that only the default features are activated on the target site, which would include MDS.
If the source site is highly dependent on the Publishing feature, your target site may experience some unexpected results as a side-effect of having those features deactivated. Please ensure that your sites will be fully functional before considering any feature deactivations.
