What is the Difference between Syncing Distribution Group with and without members?
Syncronizing With members will create stub objects on the subscribing side for the Distribution List and all members of the DL. Each of these stubs will count as an AD object against your license.
Syncronizing without members will Syncronize an empty DL to the subscribing forest, and then add any stub objects for any of the original members that have been syncronized through other publications. Subscribers may end up subset or none of the total members that were in the original group in the publishing forest. See the example below.
Example - Syncronization of a DL without Members:
In Forest A there is a DL named Funding with 3 members User1, User2, and User3. User one and user 3 are in the Accounting OU, and User2 is in the Management OU.
The Accounting OU has been published as it's own collection
In a Second collection the Funding DL is published without members
Forest B subscribes to the Accounting Publication and the funding publication
Forest C only subscribes to the funding publication
In Forest B the Funding DL is created with User1 and User3 as members
In Forest C the Funding DL is created without any members.
