ArcGIS mapping software can experience a performance impact when the Change Auditor Agent is installed on the same machine. Map files which normally take a few seconds to open could now take 30-60 seconds, and in some cases over 5 minutes to open.
This behavior is seen when usings a local file database structure, as opposed to an Oracle database for the map files.
Workaround 1:
If the Change Auditor Agent that is installed on the ArcGIS server is being used to audit something other than Windows File Server events, then this component can be disabled, and there should no longer be any performance impact. The following registry key can be implemented on the server to disable the Change Auditor File System driver:
Workaround 2:
Adjust the Change Auditor File System template to not audit the drive/path where the map files exist. In this configuration, there will still be a performance impact, but it should be far less than if the map files are being audited.
Resolution:
The Change Auditor code surrounding File System auditing is already highly optimized for performance. However, due to the way ArcGIS accesses the files on the disk, there will always be some level of impact to performance. Whether this level of impact is acceptable would have to be determined by the end users on a case by case basis.
