Question
When migrating data from Domino to Exchange, how does Notes Migrator determine the order in which to migrate each folder?
Answer
When Notes Migrator starts migrating a mailbox, all folders are iterated and the message count in each folder is determined. The folders are created as they are migrated, one after the other.
Migration of folders then occurs in the following order:
Notes Migrator processes personal folders in order of the modified date, oldest to the newest. The two exceptions to this are:
It's not always obvious what the folder order will be because there is no simple way in the Notes client to see the modified dates for the folders and views.
IMPORTANT: Folders with names containing "Alarms", 'Rules", "$MAPI", or "Group Calendars" are skipped. - Run the 'Fix Folders' agent prior to migrations
NOTE: If the goal is to have the folders created first so they can be acted upon in Exchange while the migration is being performed. Then a two pass migration can be performed. The first pass can performed of contacts only. If there is a contact to be migrated, the folders will be created even though there is not mail to be migrated.
